In this paper, a novel frequency selective surface (FSS) based on hybrid boundary cavity is proposed, which shows a high frequency selectivity and a smaller cell size. The fundamental cell of the proposed frequency selective surface is a hybrid boundary cavity which consists of four common metallic vias serving as the perfect electric boundary, as well as etched slots on top and bottom surfaces serving as the perfect magnetic boundary. In order to achieve a wider bandwidth and at the same time guarantee the flatness of the passband, we further improve the fundamental cell. Two structures of the proposed FSS were fabricated for the validation, and the measurement results exhibit good agreement with the simulation results.
