摘要
叶片大小谱和经济谱是植物功能性状变异的两个基本维度,在解释凋落叶分解动态及其他关键生态系统过程方面具有重要意义。然而,这些性状谱在叶片衰老过程中的保守性以及其对分解速率的相对预测能力尚不明确。本研究选取中国东南部亚热带常绿阔叶林56个树种,分别测定其新鲜叶与对应凋落叶性状,以量化叶片大小轴和经济轴。进一步分析了叶片衰老过程中性状轴的变化特征,并评估其对原位凋落叶分解速率的预测能力。结果表明,叶片大小轴和经济轴在衰老过程中整体保持高度稳定,但少数落叶树种的经济轴发生了明显偏移。值得注意的是,新鲜叶经济轴对凋落叶分解速率的预测能力显著高于凋落叶自身的大小轴和经济轴,表明其可作为分解过程的可靠替代指标。总体而言,本研究揭示了亚热带植物叶片功能性状在衰老过程中的整体保守性,为利用新鲜叶性状预测大尺度凋落物分解过程提供了坚实的科学依据。
Abstract
Leaf size and economic spectra represent two fundamental axes of variation in plant functional traits that help predict decomposition dynamics and other key ecosystem processes. Yet, the consistency of these spectra during senescence and their relative predictive power for decomposition rates remain unclear. Here, we quantified paired size and economic spectra in both green leaves and litter from 56 tree species in the subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests of southeastern China. We then explored the shifts of these spectra during senescence and assessed their predictive power for in-situ litter decomposition rates. Our results show that both the leaf size and economic spectra remained highly stable during senescence, though the economic spectrum of a small number of deciduous species shifted notably. Importantly, the green-leaf economic spectrum was a stronger predictor of litter decomposition rates than either the litter size or economic spectrum, indicating its potential as a reliable proxy. Overall, our study reveals a general conservatism of leaf functional traits during senescence in subtropical plants, providing a robust scientific foundation for using green-leaf traits to predict large-scale decomposition processes.关键词
