The effects of prosocial video game exposure on prosociality: A three-level meta-analysis

摘要
亲社会视频游戏对个体亲社会性的影响在学界存在争议。为厘清这一争议并探索其边界条件，本研究采用随机效应模型，对38项独立研究(包含147个效应量，总样本量41213人)进行三水平元分析。主效应结果显示，亲社会视频游戏与亲社会性之间存在显著正相关关系(r = 0.29, 95% CI [0.227, 0.356])。调节效应检验揭示，游戏接触测量方式、亲社会性测量方式与游戏类型显著调节了二者的关系，发现实验法测量的效应值高于量表法，混合型的效应值显著高于单一游戏类型。然而，被试年龄、性别、对照组设置，以及亲社会性类型、风险度、发生情境的调节作用不显著。本研究突破了传统对视频游戏的刻板印象，系统检验了亲社会视频游戏与亲社会性的关联及潜在机制，为数字时代理解媒介的潜在积极社会价值提供实证线索。
Abstract
The influence of prosocial video games on individual prosociality remains debated in academia. To clarify this controversy and identify the boundary conditions, this study employed a random-effects model to conduct a three-level meta-analysis of 38 studies (147 effect sizes, total sample size = 41,213). Main effect results revealed a significant positive correlation between prosocial video games and prosociality (r = 0.29, 95% CI [0.227, 0.356]). Moderation analyses indicated that the measurement methods of game exposure, measurement methods of prosociality, and game type significantly moderated the relationship. The effect size was greater when using experimental methods compared to scale-based methods, and mixed-type produced stronger prosocial effects than single-type games. Conversely, the moderating effects of participants age, gender, control group settings, as well as the types, risk levels, and contexts of prosociality were non-significant. By challenging traditional stereotypes of video games, this study explores the relationship between prosocial video games and prosociality, offering empirical insights into the prosocial value of constructive media in the digital era.关键词
