High-Rate Single-Carrier Space-Time Block Coded System for Frequency-Selective Fading Channels

xisting single-carrier(SC) orthogonal space-time block coding(STBC) schemes for frequency-selective channels are mostly developed for systems with two transmit antennas. In the case of four transmit antennas, the use of the orthogonal code matrix associated with four transmit antennas can not achieve full-rate transmission, and it requires the underlying channels to be invariant over the period of at least four consecutive transmitted blocks. In order to mitigate such limitations, we propose a two-stream multiplexed STBC scheme, where each stream employs two transmit antennas and adopts the full-rate orthogonal space-time block codes. The proposed coding scheme yields a code matrix of rate-2 and requires the channels to be constant over only two consecutive blocks. Two receive antennas are needed at the receiver to separate the two space-time block coded streams.
