Self-forming dynamic membrane bioreactor is a novel biological wastewater treatment process which uses dynamic membrane formed on coarse pore-sized material to effect solid-liquid separation. The coarse pore-sized material is very important to long-term operation of the self-forming dynamic membrane bioreactor. In this study, the solid-liquid separation effect and filtration performance of dynamic membranes using four different non-woven fabrics was compared. The experiment was conducted for 33 days. It was found that the solid-liquid separation performance of these four materials was a little different in the early stage of filtration, while in the later time the effluent turbidity of them all stayed below 5NTU. Dynamic membrane formed on non-woven fabric A had the best long-term filtration performance. Its average flux was 43.1L/m2•h, while the average flux of B、C and D were 34.4L/m2•h, 30.6 L/m2•h and 25.2L/m2•h respectively.
