Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a low platelet count and mucocutaneous bleeding. The decision to treat ITP is based on the platelet count, the degree of bleeding, and the patient’s lifestyle. The treatment of patients with ITP is changing rapidly, as new agents demonstrate the capability of improving outcomes and decreasing toxicity. This article reviews the treatment indications and options of chronic ITP in adults in the literature and compares them with the treatment indications and treatment options.
