bundant plant fossils were collected from the Lower Cretaceous Guyang Formation of the Guyang Basin, Inner Mongolia, China. Many well-preserved vegetative shoots of fossil Elatides were collected from the shale and oil shale strata of the Guyang Formation. Their gross morphology and excellently preserved features have been studied in detail. According to the features of vegetative shoots and leaves, these fossils were identified as Elatides araucarioides Tan et Zhu. Morphologically, this species is similar to extant Araucaria, thus, we speculate that a genetic relationship may be between Elatides and Araucaria. The comparison of fossil assemblage types with the modern vegetation types in the study area suggest a more warm and humid climate in Guyang area during the early Cretaceous compared to today. According to the intact fossil preservation and the lithological characters, it is purposed that the present fossils belonging to parautochthonous burial types in the study area.
