garwood, a valuable and widely used traditional Chinese medicine has sedative, analgesic and digestive function. Agarwood is also a highly valuable insence that is extremely rare. Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Gilg. is the sole and legal plant resource for agarwood production in China. Generally, healthy A. sinensis tree will not produce agarwood. Only wounding and fungus infection could induce the agarwood production. For it takes several to decades years for the agarwood formation, the natural resources can not meet the huge demands. In order to provide some reference for the agarwood production ,, the traditional and modern researches about the agarwood production are reviewed in this paper reviews .
