Effects of ICAM-1 combined with heart rate on type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease: a population-based prospective cohort study among Inner Mongolians

目的:探讨在中国内蒙古人群中,ICAM-1伴随心率对2型糖尿病和心血管疾病的累积效应。方法在2003年6月至2012年7月进行了一项基于内蒙古人群的前瞻性队列研究,共纳入1808人。采用多变量Logistic回归模型评估ICAM-1、心率和研究结局 (包括2型糖尿病和心血管疾病)之间的关系。结果:在≥10年的随访期间内,共发生了190例糖尿病和283例心血管疾病事件。与对照组相比,高ICAM-1和高心率的联合作用显著增加了2型糖尿病和心血管疾病的发病风险,调整后的OR(95% CI)分别为2.21(1.18,4.14) 和2.06(1.19,3.57)。此外,我们发现在心率较快的患者中,ICAM-1和研究结局之间存在线性剂量-反应关系。结论:在内蒙古人群中高ICAM-1水平和高心率对2型糖尿病和心血管疾病的发病风险具有联合作用。

Objective: The study investigated the cumulative effects of ICAM-1 concomitant with heart rate on type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease among Inner Mongolians in China. Methods: A population-based prospective cohort study from June 2003 through July 2012 among 1808 Mongolians was conducted. A multivariate logistic regression model was also performed to evaluate the association between ICAM-1, heart rate and outcomes (including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Results: During the ≥ 10-year follow-up period, 190 diabetes events and 283 cardiovascular disease events occurred. Compared with the control group, the coexistence of elevated ICAM-1 and faster heart rate significantly increased the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, with adjusted odds ratios (95% CIs) of 2.21 (1.18, 4.14) and 2.06 (1.19, 3.57), respectively. Furthermore, we identified a significant linear dose-response relationship between ICAM-1 and outcomes in patients with faster heart rates. Conclusion: Our results provide evidence for the combined effects of ICAM-1 and heart rate on type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk among Inner Mongolians.
