高性能视频编码(HEVC)已经成为最新的视频压缩标准,相对于之前所有的视频压缩标准,它显著地提升了压缩性能。在HEVC的帧内预测过程中,这一提升是由高达35种帧内预测模式和多尺寸编码单元带来的。帧内预测过程中,编码单元的预测模式需要通过一次粗选择(RMD)和一次率失真优化选择(RDO)后才能得到。由于所有不同尺寸划分的编码单元都要经过上述两个过程,帧内预测模式选择变得非常耗时。因此,本文提出一种基于MPM的帧内预测模式快速选择算法来降低HEVC帧内预测过程的计算复杂度。通过与默认编码配置下的HEVC测试软件(HM 9.0)进行实验比较,可以看出,本文提出的这种快速模式选择算法可以节省大概20%的编码时间,同时几乎不带来编码性能的损失。

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) has become the latest video compression standard, which can provide significantly improved compression performance as compared to all existing video coding standards. In the intra prediction of HEVC, this is achieved by providing up to 35 intra modes with kinds of coding unit sizes. The optimal intra mode is selected through a rough mode decision (RMD) process and a rate-distortion optimization (RDO) process. It is very timeconsuming that every coding unit with different sizes is traversed in both procedures, thus a MPM based fast mode decision algorithm is proposed in this paper to reduce the computational complexity of the intra prediction of HEVC. As compared to the default encoding scheme in HEVC test model HM9.0, experimental results show that the fast intra mode decision scheme provides almost 20% time saving on average with negligible loss of coding efficiency in all intra low complexity cases.
