Aptamers are single-stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides, which are selected from a synthetic single-stranded random oligonucleotides library by the systemic evolution of ligands using the exponential enrichment technique (SELEX). The aptamers against specific tumor biomarkers enable capture and analysis of unknown malignancy-related biomarkers in virtue of their high specificity and affinity. The application of aptamers facilitate the development of early diagnostic tools and targeted therapeutic approaches to cancer.
