n analytical model for predicting the vertical distribution of streamwise velocity in open channel flow with submerged flexible vegetation was proposed when significant bending occurs. The flow regime is separated into two horizontal layers: a vegetation layer and a free water layer above it. In the vegetation layer, mechanical analysis for the flexible vegetation was conducted and an approximately linear relationship between vegetation drag and flow velocity was observed when significant bending occurs. This differed significantly from the case of rigid upright vegetation. We derived a linear force-velocity expression in the momentum equation and obtained an analytical solution. For the free water layer, a new expression was presented, replacing the traditional logarithmic velocity distribution, to obtain a zero velocity gradient at the water surface. Finally, the analytical predictions of the streamwise velocity were compared with published experimental data, and the good agreement between the datasets demonstrated that this analytical model is effective for open channel flow with flexible vegetation where significant bending occurs.
