And using the method of hierarchical cluster identify the competitors with Nanjing and using principal component analysis extracted the main factors. Then, the paper calculated the influencing boundary of Nanjing city with “The breaking theory”. According to the flows analysis, the hinterland of Nanjing city was divided into the the core hinterland, the direct hinterland and the indirect hinterland. The core hinterland consisted of JuRong, Ma’ANShan, QuanJiao, Lai’an, Chuzhou and Yangzhou; The direct hinterland included Zhenjiang, Danyang, Tianchang, Yizhen, Hexian, Wuhu; the indirect hinterland comprised Jiangdou and Chaohu. And then the paper gave some suggestion about the development of Nanjing and the hinterland from the promotion of information networks, transportation system, and the development of a logistics center and financial center, and other aspects of the tourism industry.
