By combining effects of public key algorithms and integrated circuit chips, the paper put forwards a new method called the banknote anti-forgery system for preventing radically banknotes from being forged. The authors present simply the IC chip and digital signature technologies involved in the new system, design the preliminary scheme of the new system, including the architecture and the module functions, and analyze the security and effectiveness of the new system. The paper compares the new method with the existing anti-forgery methods in technologies and costs, points out the advantages of the new method, and probes into the future technologies, especially, the digital signature algorithms with a small modulus.
