utophagy is a high-throughput protein degradation pathway. Essential to this process is the formation of autophagosomes. In yeast and animal cells, the observation of autophagosomes is achieved mainly through the observation of fluorescent protein labeled ATG8 (LC3 in animals). There have been reports on the application of 35S:GFP-ATG8 in plants. Nevertheless, the over-expression of ATG8 has been shown to have an impact on plant development. We consider it necessary to reconstruct the vector. In this study, pATG8a:GFP-ATG8a was constructed and introduced to Arabidopsis, and stable transgenic lines were evaluated. One line was found to have little phenotypic differences from the wild-type, and is suitable for monitoring autophagy.
