祖籍和企业投资：以台湾鸿海集团为例

Our Chinese people hold strong ancestral hometown identity. Since the reform and opening policy in 1970s, the investment by overseas Chinese is regarded as one important factor in stimulating the economic growth. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive case analysis of Foxconn Technology Group of Terry T. M. Guo. We find that ancestral hometown plays a very important role in investment location choice of Foxconn. However, the performance of hometown investment is worse than its investment in other places and also worse than investment by other Taiwanese firms in the same place. The results are consistent with the argument that businessmen have "philanthropic" motivation when they invest in their hometown.
