南海甘泉岛海鸟粪土沉积层元素地球化学特征及生态环境意义
Geochemical Characteristics of Guano Sediments in Ganquan Island, South China Sea and Its Environmental Applications
本文对采自南海甘泉岛的一根长107cm的含海鸟粪的沉积柱(编号GQ)元素地球化学特征进行了分析。结果表明,该沉积剖面有机质和无机元素含量在11cm深度处出现较大差异。11cm以下的沉积物中TOC与P元素显著正相关,反映了海鸟粪的输入;而在11cm以上,TOC与P的相关性发生变化,这与植物腐殖质大量输入有关,这种变化很可能反映了甘泉岛生态环境的变化以及成土作用的逐渐加强。元素分析表明,Cu、Zn、Cd、P、Ba、As、Se七种元素是甘泉岛海鸟粪土沉积层的生物地球化学组合的标型特征,其含量主要受海鸟粪输入的影响。结合东岛海鸟粪土沉积物的研究,可以认为除Ba外的其他六种元素是整个西沙群岛海鸟粪土沉积的标型元素组合,而沉积剖面中的Fe2O3、Al、K2O、Mn、Ti等元素含量的高低主要受有机质(即生物量)控制。对16种无机元素的Q因子分析结果表明,物源组成(即海鸟粪、珊瑚砂和腐殖质相对比例)可能是控制GQ沉积剖面中元素地球化学特征的主要因素。
n ornithogenic sediment profile (namely GQ) are well preserved in Ganquan Island, South China Sea. Based on concentrations of different geochemical indices for the 107 sub-samples, we analyzed geochemical characteristics of the profile. It is shown that concentrations of organic matter and some elements in the upper 11cm are very different from that of samples below the depth 11cm. There is a significant correlation between TOC and phosphorus below the depth 11cm, suggesting the input of guano into the sediments, while correlation between TOC and phosphorus is weak for the samples above 11cm, indicating that plant residue played an import role in determining the chemical composition for the relative young samples. Such abrupt change is very likely the evidence of pedogenesis' strengthening for Ganquan Island in history. It is also shown that the elements Cu, Zn, Cd, P, Ba, As and Se are bioelements, which would be ideal indicators of guano input. Compared to our previous study on Dongdao Island, South China Sea, we conclud that except for the element Ba, combination of the other six elements is a proxy for seabird population on Xisha Islands, South China Sea, and organic matters determines concentrations of Fe2O3, Al, K2O, Mn and Ti in the sediment profile. With Q-mode factor analysis on the total 16 inorganic elements, we found that source materials (guano, coral and humus) were probably key factors that determined geochemical characteristics of GQ profile.
