Base analogues can pair with all natural bases without discrimination. Most of these analogues are non-hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic or stabilize double-stranded DNA by stacking interactions. Since the 1990s, a number of compounds known as bases analogues, including hypoxanthine, nitroazoles, isocarbostyril analogues, azole carboxamides and aromatic triazole analogues have been used as biochemical tools, such as for PCR primers, probes, ligation and triplexes.
