his work presented growth and detailed spectroscopic characteristics of the Dysprosium doped (0.2mol%) congruent LiTaO3 (Dy:CLT) single crystal. Based on the polarized absorption spectra, systematic Judd-Ofelt theory analysis was carried out to determine the Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters and main spectroscopic characteristics. With increasing temperature, a slight increase of the lifetime corresponding to the transition 4F9/2→6H13/2 was observed and analyzed, which indicated the potential application for temperature measurement. The Dy:CLT single crystal had relatively high stimulated emission cross sections of the dominant transition 4F9/2 → 6H13/2 at 581nm. The results suggested that the Dy:CLT single crystal would be a promising candidate material for yellow solid-state laser operation.
