he study on digital video coding technology plays a significant part in our research into image coding theory as well as satisfying the urgent need of our modern society. The open structure of video coding standard affords necessary conditions for studying and developing the technology. Through generalizing the function, coding feature, and coding technology of the video coding standard of MPEG-4 in this paper, the video object concept is introduced as well as the content-based coding tools.
