his paper discussed the classification, structure, mechanism, modeling function, current research progress and the application prospect of the intramolecular chaperone. Many proteins, including most extracellular proteases and some hormones, are synthesized as precursors with pro regions in vitro. There are increasing evidences that the pro regions have molecular chaperone—like activity on the folding of the proteins they are linked with. To differentiate from the general molecular chaperones, the term of intramolecular chaperone was introduced to refer to this function of Pro peptides. With the further development of research and the associated knowledge of intramolecular chaperone, there will be extensive prospects of the application in preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases, exploiting bio-products, assisting the renaturation of protein and so on.
