NALYSIS OF RELIABILITY FOR UNDERGROUND PIPELINES SUBJECTED TO CORROSION

A method is described here for the evaluation of circumferential stresses of underground pipelines taking into account the nonlinear effects of corrosion. Current methods of design are based on deterministic approaches even though it is usually acknowledged that most of the parameters which influence stresses in an underground pipelines are subject to considerable uncertainty. In an attempt to take account of the various uncertainty. In an attempt to take account of the various uncertainties, a probabilistic approach to design is suggested in this study. Parameters which are related to structure, soil, load and corrosion are treated is used to estimate the reliability index and the probability of failure for a given expected life time.
