esigned and implemented a video surveillance system which based on embedded Linux operating system and S3C2440 platform, and described the system’s hardware and software design. The system uses USB camera to capture real-time video images, uses the interface functions that V4L provided to complete the programming of video capture module, uses the Xvid codec to implement the MPEG-4 coding in software pattern, then transports the compressed video stream to network using RTP protocol. The tests show that the system is stable in performance, and satisfies the request of real-time video surveillance.
