Effect of salt stress on germination and seedling growth of Medicago falcata

实验研究了盐对黄花苜蓿种子发芽和幼苗生长的影响,以紫花苜蓿cw400和紫花苜蓿公农2号为对照。在0,20,40,60,80,100,120,140,160,180,200m mol/L浓度NaCl胁迫条件下,研究了发芽率、发芽指数(Gi),并比较分析了胚根、胚轴生长状况。结果表明随着盐浓度的升高三种苜蓿的发芽率、发芽指数(Gi)都受到不同程度的抑制,盐浓度越高,抑制作用越明显。与紫花苜蓿cw400及公农2号相比,黄花苜蓿在发芽百分数和发芽指数上没有表现出优势,但是胚根生长几乎不受盐浓度的影响,各个处理与对照间没有显著差异。复萌实验结果显示三种苜蓿种子在盐溶液中能够保持活力。紫花苜蓿cw400,黄花苜蓿均在60m mol/L处达到最大总发芽率100%,但只有黄花苜蓿总发芽率全部达到90%以上,各盐处理间复萌率无显著差异。因此,认为黄花苜蓿比紫花苜蓿更适合在松嫩草地上种植。

Germination experiment was conducted to study the effect of salt stress on germination and seedling growth of Medicago falcata, with two cultivars of Medicago sativa (cw400 and Gongnong2) as control. Seeds were germinated at eleven salinities (0,20,40,60,80,100,120,140,160,180,200 m mol/L NaCl) and germination percentage, rate of germination, as well as seedling growth were measured to detect the differences amang three cultivarscline. The results showed that germination percentage and rate of germination decreased with increases in salinity, as well as the length of radicle and hypocotyl. Compared to cw400 and Gongnong2, M. falcata did not show superiority on germination percentage and rate of germination, but the radicle length of M. falcata exhibited good with less effect and insignificant differences between treatments. Recovery experiment revealed that seeds of the three materials can keep viable in salt solutions. The total germination reached the maximum 100% at 60 m mol/L for cw400 and M. falcate, but only that of M. falcate exceeded 90% in all treatments. The recovery germination showed no significant differences between treatments. Therefore, M. falcata is more appropriate than M. sativa to grow on the Songnen grassland.
