Experimental demonstration of multi-band vector solitons in optical induced photonic lattices

We experimentally demonstrate multi-band vector solitons in optically induced square photonic lattices under self-focusing nonlinearity, which are composed of two components from the modes in the normal diffraction region of the first and second band. Experimentally, the Bloch modes of the Γpoint in the first band are excited by a Gaussian beam with single-site excitation, while the modes of the X point in the second band are excited by a singly-charged vortex beam in the same site with the Gaussian beam. Under appropriate conditions, by monitoring the output intensity pattern and the spectrum, the multi-band vector solitons are formed when the two components are simultaneously self-trapped in the same lattice site.
