his paper presents the results of unsaturated slope stability analyses using the elasto-plastic finite elements with shear strength reduction technique. The pore pressure and the suction distribution within the slopes are naturally obtained in terms of steady-state unsaturated seepage analysis. An automatic increment algorithm for shear strength reduction is developed to accelerate the process of searching for the factor of safety of slope stability. A set of representative numerical examples are analyzed and discussed, to evaluate the slope stabilities as the change of water elevation in the slopes.
