he field experiments showed that windward flow amplification near the surface of a dune depends on (1) the height of the dune, (2) the angle of the stoss slope and (3) the wind speed upwind of the dune. In this paper, we simulated the wind flow over an isolated and transverse dune, and discussed the influences of the height of the dune, the angle of the stoss slope and the wind speed on the speed-up factor. Based on the simulation and theoretical investigations, a formulary of analytical approximations for the speed-up factor is presented.
