he basic theory and process of stoichiometric binary rare-earth intermetallic compounds (RM) prepared by cold crucible levitation melting are introduced, and the RM are studied by X-ray and mechanical properties testing. The fracture mechanism of the RM at room temperature is discussed via analysis of fracture surface SEM and dates of mechanical properties.
