木质形成素(Xylogen)是一种具有非典型性脂转运蛋白(nsLTP,non-specific lipid transfer protein)结构域的嵌合型阿拉伯半乳糖蛋白(arabinogalactan proteins, AGPs),具有启动木质部细胞分化的功能。木质形成素由正在分化的维管细胞分泌并被运输到邻近的未分化细胞中启动其向导管分子细胞的分化,在植物维管系统的发育过程中起着重要作用。为研究水稻XYLP7基因的生物学功能,作者从韩国PFG突变体库中购买了xylp7突变体,研究观察发现xylp7突变体的维管系统发育存在缺陷,表明该基因在水稻维管系统发育中发挥作用。

Xylogen is a kind of chimeric arabinogalactan proteins (arabinogalactan proteins, AGPs) containing atypical lipid transfer protein domain (nsLTP, non-specific lipid transfer protein), it can initiate the xylem cell differentiation. Xylogen is secreted by the differentiating vascular cells and transported to the adjacent undifferentiated cells for initiating these cells differentiate to tracheary elements; therefore, xylogen plays an important role in the development process of vascular system in plants. To study the biological function of OsXYLP7 gene in rice, the author bought T-DNA insertion mutant related to OsXYLP7 gene from South Korea PFG mutant library, and found that the xylp7 mutant have defects in the vascular system development, which indicated that the OsXYLP7 plays a role in the development of rice vascular system.
