Vector Network is a new type of data communication network, which is baesd on vector address and vector switching. Vector address is coded according to the port number of the equipment on data transmission path. Vector switching is analyzing vector address and forwarding data packets. Vector Network separates the routing and switching function. The routing part is responsible for getting routing information and maintaining the network topology. The switching part is only responsible for forwarding packets. Vector switching is simple and quick, and it does not need to look up the table. It only needs to add FIFO module to the input port part, which occupies few resources and could reduce the cost of switching equipment. Current vector network is accomplished over ethernet, and vector switching is also designed based on ethernet port. First, introduce the definition of vector address and the process of vector switching, then propose a complete hardware design of vector switching based on Verilog language and implement on the NetFPGA platform.
