In order to effectively reduce the energy consumption during evaporation, application of horizontal-tube low temperature multi-effect distillation to wastewater treatment was proposed. By combining mature vertical-tube falling film evaporators with the horizontal-tube falling film evaporators, the heat was utilized in terms of its grade in the hybrid wastewater evaporator. The operating principle and technical features of the hybrid system was elaborated. The economic analysis based on engineering practice showed that the specific energy consumption was effectively reduced and the application of horizontal-tube low temperature multi-effect distillation had its advantages compared with other distillation technologies of wastewater treatment.
