Relationships Between Approximate Number System Acuity and Symbolic Number Abilities in Preschool Children

本研究以122名3-6岁学前儿童为被试,共进行了11项任务的测试:近似数量系统敏锐度采用点数比较任务及点数异同任务;抑制控制采用木棒敲击任务和白天-黑夜任务;短时记忆及工作记忆采用数字顺序和逆序播报任务;言语能力采用皮博迪图片词汇测验;符号数学能力测验则包括数数、基数、符号数字知识测验及简单计算。结果发现:(1)学前儿童的近似数量系统的敏锐度随年龄增加而不断增加。(2)点数异同任务下被试正确率均大于随机水平,但正确率显著低于点数比较任务;点数异同任务成绩均存在显著的年龄主效应及比率主效应。表明点数异同任务也可运用于学前儿童近似数量系统敏锐度的测量。(3)点数比较任务下,控制被试抑制控制、短时记忆、工作记忆、言语测验成绩后,韦伯系数能显著预测被试的基数和符号数字知识测验分数,总正确率能显著预测被试的数数、基数、符号数字知识测验分数。(4)点数异同任务下,只有点数不同试次下的正确率能显著预测被试的符号数字知识测验分数。

122 3 to 6-year-old children participated in our study to complete 11 measures to access ANS acuity, symbolic number abilities, inhibitory control, short memory, working memory and receptive vocabulary. The results indicated: (1)With the age increasing, ANS acuity of preschool children continues to increase. (2)Subjects performed significantly above chance level in all ANS acuity tasks,but the performance of non-symbolic magnitude comparison task was better than same-different task. The main effect of age and ratio were significant in these two tasks. These results indicated the same different task is applicable to measure ANS acuity of preschool children. (3) After controlling for short memory, working memory, inhibitory control and receptive vocabulary, the weber faction calculated by non-symbolic magnitude comparison task correlated with cardinality proficiency and symbolic number knowledge, while the accuracy of this task correlated with counting skills, cardinality proficiency and symbolic number knowledge. (4) After controlling for other variables, the total accuracy of same different task did not correlated with symbolic number abilities, while the accuracy of different trails correlated with symbolic number knowledge.
