he role of cyclic di-AMP pathway in regulating bacterial phenotypes.
yclic diadenosine monophosphate (c-di-AMP) is a recently identified second messenger of bacteria. C-di-AMP has been reported to be involved in plethora of bacterial activities, including growth, cell wall homeostasis, and microbial pathogenicity. In addition, c-di-AMP could also be recognized by host cells as an invading signal, and activate the innate immune system of the host. Di-adenylate cyclase and Phosphodiesterase are key enzymes that regulate the metabolism of c-di-AMP. Here we reviewed the recent literature regarding the role and molecular mechanisms of c-di-AMP in regulating the physiological and pathological traits of bacteria. The potential role c-di-AMP and its related proteins in the development of novel approaches to a better management of microbial infection has also be discussed.
