Report forms is the basic tool of the information system. A batch of excellent reporting tool have been developed with the development of reporting technology. Business intelligence and reporting tool, in short of BIRT, is an Eclipse-based open source reporting system for web applications, especially for those based on J2EE and J2SE, which can be seamless integrated with BIRT. Hence, BIRT provides an alternative option to design B/S reports. In this introduction, some concepts and reporting components are covered, as well as the system structure, reporting flow and the secondary development, and at the end, the pros and cons of BIRT are also involved.
