基于统计特征和环数的车牌字符识别算法研究

针对车牌字符识别中特征提取方法对相似字符识别的不足之处,提出了一种基于环数特征和车牌多个统计特征的提取方法。首先将车牌的34个字符按照环数特征分成无环、一个环、两个环3类,对每一类字符,在经过预处理后的车牌细化字符基础上提取字符横向纵向的笔画统计特征、4个侧面的拐点统计特征、4个侧面的轮廓统计特征及字符左、右的字符像素统计特征,构建一个16维的特征向量集,然后用改进的BP神经网络对大量车牌图片进行测试,实验结果验证了车牌字符基于统计特征和环数的识别方法有效改善了相似字符的识别问题,鲁棒性好。
o solve the deficiency of feature extraction method in vehicle license plate character recognition, a new method based on ring number feature and multi-statistical feature extraction is presented. First,the 34 characters of the license plate are divided into 3 categories according to the number of rings:no ring, a ring and two rings. For each character class, after pre-processing,different kinds of features are extracted,including stroke statistical feature on horizontal and vertical , inflection point statistical characteristics of four outsides of characters, outline of statistical features of four outsides of characters and pixel statistical characteristics of characters.These features are then converted into a lower-dimension feature vector set,and then test the features extraction using the improved BP neural network.The experiment results that the recognition of license plate characters based on statistical characteristics and ring number recognition method is effective to improve the similar characters recognition and robust.
