Lead halide perovskites are highly regarded for their exceptional photoelectric properties; however, their inherent toxicity and poor stability impede their commercial application. Therefore, emerging lead-free metal halide materials have emerged as potential alternatives due to their low toxicity, superior photoelectric properties, and robust stability. Among these alternatives, terpolymer copper halides (TCHs) have become significant substitutes owing to their diverse structural composition, facile synthesis, unparalleled photoelectric properties, abundant availability, and cost-effectiveness. This review comprehensively examines the crystal and electronic structure of TCH materials along with their luminescence mechanism, preparation methods, stability characteristics, and latest advancements. The findings of this study demonstrate that copper halide-based perovskites hold great promise as novel and prospective materials in the field of optoelectronics.
