Interface Characteristics of High Chromium Cast Iron Matrix Reinforced with ZTA Particles

ZTA particles reinforced high chromium cast iron matrix composites have been prepared successfully by firstly fixing the ZTA ceramic preforms a specific location in a plastic mold of Lost Foam Casting and then pouring the liquid metal to the ceramic preforms with the method of Lost Foam Casting. The volume fraction of ceramic particles in the composite is 42%. The particles distributed uniformity in the matrix and the texture was dense. A interfacial transition zone occured between ZTA ceramic particles and high chromium cast iron matrix. The interfacial transition zone contained both the elements of Al Zr in ZTA and that of Fe Cr in high chromium cast iron, what showed that high-temperature diffusion and metallurgical bonding arised between ZTA ceramic particles and high chromium cast iron matrix.
