In eukaryotes, materials delivery is mediated by vesicle transport. The last step of vesicles fuse to the destination target membrane is regulated by SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) complexes. The number of plant SNAREs is much larger than those in other eukaryotes, suggesting a complicated membrane trafficking in plants. To date, 13 plant specific SNAREs have been identified. These SANREs play several important roles. Like, they are essential for not only for vesicle trafficking, but also for cell plate formation during cytokinesis, generated nodules for legume and rhizobium symbiosis and functions in plant disease resistance.
