本文介绍了霍兰教授提出的复杂适应系统理论，分析、阐述了用于研究复杂适应系统的多 agent 建模与仿真方法。详细论述了由圣塔菲研究所(SFI)开发的编程建模工具Swarm，以及它在复杂系统研究中的应用。结合著名的“热虫(Heatbugs)实验”实例，说明了利用 Swarm进行模型的设计与实现过程，指出利用Swarm能够简单快速地进行复杂系统的建模与仿真，有助于形象直观地领悟到复杂现象的本质，加强对复杂系统的理解。
he theory of complex adaptive system (CAS) and it s research method , called multi-agent based modeling and simulation methodology , are described. The application of Swarm, which is a programmable modeling tool developed at the SFI (Santa Fe Institute), to discrete event modeling and simulation of complex systems with heterogeneous agents , is expounded in detail. Then t he basic frame and essential principle of Swarm, and how to use Swarm to carry out a complex system are discussed emphatically with an example Heatbugs.
